Figure 1.
Humans
“We are all human, of course. What else is there?”
You are a human…
of course…
Humans are the enduring builders of civilization. Defined not by ancient power or curses, but by their awareness, compassion, inventiveness, endurance, and their quest for significance and direction. Humans create, innovate, record, and repeat. While other creatures are born knowing their place, humans can make their own choices. They have the ability to carve their path through the powers of industry, the law, religion, and a fear of the unknown.
Humanity survives not because it is innocent, but because it is willing to be protected.
Yet humanity’s greatest skill remains to be denial. Most people prefer to live their lives blind to the forces that surround them. They feel safe due to distance, distraction, and design. Every night they pray that the lights will stay on, the trains will keep on running, and the night will simply remain just a story told to us as children.
Some humans rise to power, shaping society from behind doors of wealth and influence.
They decide which truths are acceptable and which ones should be hidden away for none to see.. Others fall, taking oaths and getting their hands dirty so the rest of us can rest easy.
Between them lies the vast majority, unaware recipients of sacrifices they will never recognize.
The Hunter walks the knife’s edge between the ordinary world and the things lurking just beyond it. You were not born with claws, fangs, or ancient blood in your veins. Only a pair of human hands and the will to use them. Every scar tells a story, every hunt demands a price.
A Hunter is…
Someone who chooses to fight the monsters that haunt the shadows of the world. Vampires, shifters, creatures older and stronger than any mortal should challenge. but Hunters do. Not through magic, nor destiny, but relentless preparation and a willingness to step into danger where others would run. A Hunter learns the old lore, memorizes the weaknesses of things that should not exist, and tracks their prey with human persistence. They are soldiers in a secret war, stalkers on forgotten paths.
Hunters, Wardens, Slayers, Exorcists… The names change with language, culture, and tradition, but the calling remains the same. Some of us stumbled into the truth by accident, a glimpse behind the curtain that could never be forgotten. Some were raised with eyes already opened, taught from childhood how to fight and read the signs of the unnatural. Others lost something to the dark, and turned grief into purpose. No matter how the path begins, it leads us all to the same grim understanding: the world is full of monsters… and someone has to hunt them.
You are only human. But sometimes, that’s the most dangerous thing of all.
