The Matronage Company

Calon am Galon - A Heart for a Heart

In Loom County, you will not find any regular medical hospital with traditional nurses and doctors.
Instead, a company of practitioners labelled 'Matrons' provide succour to all those who request it.
Take this author's warning, however, that the Matronage Company has a low tolerance for disrepute. Best not to bite the hand that feeds you, is advice you would undoubtedly hear.

Who are the Matrons?

The Matronage Company was founded by a group of women who’s mentor was burned at the stake by a man who feared science. Quoting heresy and divine retribution, the First Matron died so that her children could gather and provide succour to the peoples of what is now known as Loom County.

In 1858, Silurian Conway passed an Act enshrining the Matronage Company into Law within Loom County. The burning of Braithwaite Academy was a tragedy across all settlements, and it was the Matrons who proved themselves by diving headfirst into the flames to save who they could.

The lack of medical infrastructure was a business that the Company monopolised on. They struck a deal with the Government, becoming a departmental subsidy and gaining unprecedented influence over all matters health.

In the present day, the Matronage Company is the foremost medical provider in Loom County, serving as a private yet public serving service for the people by the people.

Or at least, those of the people who have enough manners.
